Description
Description
The perfect balance of warmth, protection, and lightweight design, this down-insulated jacket is specifically designed for winter alpine climbing and super alpinism in the world’s greater mountain ranges.
The Kryos was developed with input from some of the world’s top Alpinists, climbers who were increasingly pushing the boundaries of lighter jackets to conquer higher and more technical routes, aiming for reduced weight and pack size despite increasingly narrow margins. Through extensive research and development, and leveraging their insulation expertise, the aim was to create a jacket that would meet the demanding requirements of the toughest routes at altitudes of 6,000m and 7,000m, as well as the biggest modern Alpine winter lines, while providing significantly greater warmth and protection.
The key to this achievement was the creation of the FIRESTORM™ construction. This includes the use of a drop outer WINDSTOPPERⓇ shell, which dramatically reduces heat loss while offering enhanced weather protection—crucial for the most challenging routes. Beneath this, a hybrid design of stitch-through and pleated baffles is employed, optimised to deliver maximum loft and warmth from the 234g of goose down.
As Uisdean Hawthorn remarked after testing the final prototype of the Kryos on Pakistan’s Koyo Zom: ‘I was genuinely surprised by how much warmer this jacket was in real mountain conditions compared to anything I’ve used before… It’s significantly less bulky than other jackets, making it easier to second in after long belays.’
The Kryos has been part of numerous significant ascents, including Paul Ramsden and Tim Miller’s Piolet d'Or-winning first ascent of Jugal Spire, Tom Livingstone and Matt Glenn’s first ascent of the North East Pillar of Tengkangpoche, Freja Shannon’s multiple hard first ascents in Arctic Norway, and Uisdean Hawthorn’s Piolet d'Or-winning first ascent on Mount Robson’s Emperor Face.
