Storage and Pre-Season checks:
The best way to store your Red Airbelt during the off season is in a dry environment and ideally unpacked. Hung on a padded hanger in a wardrobe or cupboard is ideal as it reduces the chances of any dampness getting in. While unpacking, attention should be paid to how the PFD is folded and packed. This will allow for easier repacking.
Before the season starts, we would encourage you to manually inflate the vest using the mouthpiece and check that the PFD air chamber is fully sealed. Once deflated the canister should be unscrewed and the threaded end inspected to ensure it has not been pierced and is therefore still airtight. While the canister is removed from the PFD, the pull toggle should be tested by pulling down on the toggle to make sure it works - making sure to retain and refit the green clip after the test is complete. The folding guide printed on the PFD should then be followed to repack it into its pouch, paying close attention to the grab handle to make sure it sits on the outside of the pouch when packed.
They also recommend practicing releasing the PFD from its pouch when you are wearing it and before using it in action. This will help you become accustomed to the process if you ever need to use it in an emergency.
