Can the Trangia mess tin be used over an open fire? i.e campfire
In short yes it can and many people do use them like this, also the Trangia kettle is often used in the same way
There are a few variables in the temperature a camp fire will burn at but as a rule of thumb it will be between 900 - 100 degrees Celsius where as aluminium has a melting point of around 2000 degrees Celsius.
