Based in Wellington, New Zealand Icebreaker was born in 1994 after the
late Sir Peter Blake set a world circumnavigation record wearing the
first Icebreaker Bodyfit 260 prototype. He was so excited he wrote this
endorsement and gave it to Icebreaker for free.
“Icebreaker is
superior in every way to anything I’ve ever worn, I wore it
for 40 days and 40 nights and it didn’t itch or get
whiffy”
Icebreaker was the first company in the world to develop a merino wool
layering system for the outdoors. Icebreaker merino clothing was also
the first outdoor apparel company in the world to source their merino
direct from growers, a system it began in 1997. There are now 10
distinct pure merino fabrics in the Icebreaker merino system, covering
underwear, mid layer, and outerwear.
Icebreaker use only pure merino hand-picked from 120 high country
stations in the country's Southern Alps to create their edgy ecological
outdoor clothing that combines nature's work with human technology and
design.
