Choosing the Right Tent

There are many different tents suited to many different purposes so when choosing a tent you need to consider what sort of camping you will be mainly doing. Will it be a summer family trip to the Coromandel, a tough tramp through the Ruahines, or New Years at the beach with your mates?

Whatever you are planning you need to ensure the tent you choose has the right features for your chosen pursuit: design, ventilation, size, weight and materials used in construction are all important factors, whether you are doing the hard yards or just relaxing in the sun.

New Zealand conditions dictate that your tent is 100% weather proof, there are a lot of tents available on the market today but not all of them are suitable to our unique conditions, though you can rest assured if it does work here then it will work anywhere.

For your tramping trip a tent like the popular Freedom Mono is ideal. The Mono is a two person tent with durable guy ropes for additional stability in windy conditions and internal mesh construction that allows cool air to flow throughout the tent on those muggy summer nights.

If you need a little more space there is the MSR  Huba Huba and if you are taking a lot of gear or perhaps your prized mountain bike then you could look at MSR Gearshed and addtion that can be used with most MSR adventure tents. If you want to go extremely lightweight then perhaps the Vaude Hogan Ultalite Argon is for you, it has enough space to sit up comfortably and is only 1.4kg.

If you are thinking of a family camping trip then the Coleman and Freedom Camping ranges we offer are the ideal choice, with everything from a low cost entry level options right through the the Freedom HQ regarded by many (Team Outdoor Action included) as the godfather of all canvas tents available here in New Zealand.

There really are many options available so please browse the site, drop by the store, give us a call or send us an e-mail and our expert team will be happy to help you work out exactly which tent is suited to your specific requirements.
